Fishing with Bolognese in the sea at night
Winter is now a memory. Summer is at the height of its splendor, with the typical hot days of August. Many will choose the sea for their holidays and, thanks to the good weather, they will certainly try to go fishing. When? Certainly not during the day, because there are many commitments and the crowding of marinas and beaches is notable. Many will do it at night, while their wife and children rest in the hotel, leaving some free time on the sultry August evenings. What does the sea offer in this period and, above all, at night? The question is certainly legitimate. The prey is varied: sea bass (sea bass), sea bream, bream, gray mullet and white sea bream first and foremost. The water temperature is finally ready to awaken the appetite of many fish, even large ones. What is needed is to take advantage of so much fish availability and go fishing, from dusk to dawn, when predator activity is at its maximum.
Fishing with Bolognese
The Bolognese rod is the main tool for sea fishing. A 6 or 7 meter telescopic rod can, in fact, satisfy most of the needs of the traveling fisherman, from fresh water to salt water. The precision in casting, in the retention of the bait and the great ability to fight with prey from the port or from the cliff, gives the Bolognese the quality of universality, which Italian fishermen like so much. The Bolognese you use on the river will be the best company for a night by the sea! To fish in the port or from the cliff, equip yourself with a 6/7 meter high modulus carbon telescopic rod with a rigid or tip action, light and above all easy to handle (since we will be fishing at night with particularly reduced visibility).
On Pescalacca there are various models among which the Kolpo Futura stands out, an excellent tool for the sea: https://www.pescalacca.it/canne-da-pesca/kolpo-futura-canna-pesca-bolognese
A size 3000 reel, with a large spool, will be the winning combination for the Bolognese. Also fit a 0.16 spool, possibly designed for reel fishing.
The best line for Bolognese fishing at night
Let's move on to the line to fish better with the Emilian technique, adapted to salt waters. There are many variations of a basic model which, if well built, should still work in many cases, wherever you fish. The simplest setup consists of a fixed 3 gram float followed by a ring of 10 pellets. This lead will be wider towards the top and narrower towards the bottom, to ensure greater naturalness in the movement of the bait. The dots above can be spaced 20/25 centimeters apart while those below can be spaced 10/15 centimetres. Why a frame that is narrower at the bottom and wider at the top, when it should be the opposite? The motivation is simple: to win the summer smallmouth, made up of sparlotti and boghette, then create a line that immediately descends to the bottom and guarantees excellent stability. On the other hand, the rig will have a length of at least 1.5 meters of 0.12 (possibly fluorocarbon like the Kolpo Illusion: https://www.pescalacca.it/fili-da-pesca/fluorocarbon-finali-surfcasting-trota- kolpo ), enough to make a tuft of maggots or a live shrimp float.
Tricks and strategies for night fishing
Night fishing requires specific bait and adequate baiting. Predators such as sea bass and sea bream willingly appreciate a nice morsel consisting of a live shrimp (picked from the rocks) or a tuft of maggots expertly baited on a short shank 18/20 hook. Baiting, however, is often the subject of doubts: regular slingshots of maggots or pellets are certainly an additional weapon to bring serranids andsparidids closer to the area of operation of the float. Furthermore, night fishing must always begin at sunset and continue according to the tide peaks. The fish are at their most aggressive both during changes in light and when the tide tends to rise and reach its peak. The chances of capture increase, as concentration must never be lacking because the attack is often immediate and fleeting. In this regard, it is good practice to purchase excellent quality starlights, which can facilitate viewing of the float even from a long distance, favoring night fishing trips. The Kolpo starlights ( https://www.pescalacca.it/minuteria/starlite-nightlight-luce-notturna-pesca ) fulfill this need perfectly, guaranteeing a duration of 12 hours with a particularly powerful light beam.
