Bolognese fishing in free fall
We are in the middle of summer, of great heat, of long sunny days. The sea water has a warmer temperature and the typical prey of the reef have resumed their activity. The fish tend to feed, so the appetite and predatory instinct are not lacking. However, the abnormally hot conditions, the absence of winds and storms and the high pressure tend to make fishing for specimens weighing more than a kilo complex, sometimes almost impossible. And it is precisely in this context that the fisherman will have to put all his cunning into play, working intelligently, using capillary lines and ultra-light equipment.
Sea fishing with the Bolognese
The Bolognese rod is the most suitable tool for "fine" fishing. The fixed rod is also, we do not deny it. However, it does not have a reserve of line, unlike the Bolognese which can certainly count on the reel. This detail, absent in the fixed rod, allows you to better manage the prey in difficult conditions, such as deep depths, cliffs or piers with breakwaters. The latest construction technologies also allow the creation of 6, 7 and 8 meter rods that are truly thin, high-performance, with soft or semi-rigid actions, which do not fear difficult conditions such as those dictated by ultralight fishing.
What does it mean to fish in free fall?
The goal of fishing with the Bolognese in free fall is to make the bait more authentic, as natural as possible in the eyes of the prey, exploiting the principles of physics and the use of light floats, thin lines, long lines and soft terminals. This setup becomes necessary on days of good weather, with cliffs and outside of piers that have crystal clear water. The fish is rather suspicious and the clarity of the waters of August and September certainly does not help. Therefore, using light floats, weights limited to the bone and fluorocarbon lines, it will be possible to put on the table all the weapons of "seduction" against sea bass, gilt-head bream, mullet, white sea bream and any prey to tease with the Bolognese. To fish in free fall, it will necessarily be necessary to identify the grazing of the prey: on the surface, mid-water or on the bottom. Once this preliminary action has been carried out, and the species to be targeted have been identified, we will structure the line according to the parameters that we will explain in the following lines.
The equipment
A light and high-performance Bolognese rod, such as the Kolpo Futura (Discover it on Pescaloccasione can be right for us. The most suitable sizes for fall fishing are 7 and 8 meters, because they have more meters available to build a line that works on deep waters. A 6 meter can work fall provided, however, that the seabed is more limited or you fish in mid-water or on the surface. In addition to this exquisitely technical detail, the long rod offers three additional advantages:
- a valid retention of the float in the presence of a current that rises laterally. This really makes the difference when you have to “move” the bait to tempt the most astute prey.
- more space available on the line to build a long shoulder (i.e. a crown of pellets)
- more leverage in favor of the fisherman to counter sudden escapes in complex environments such as cliffs and outside piers
Now let's move on to the reel. We usually recommend models in size 2000/4000, just like the Kolpo Boss
